ABOUT Me:

My name is Mike "Celtic Warrior O'Brien, I am the President of the Guardians of the Children Northern Virginia Chapter. I started this Chapter about a year ago to help educate the public about Child Abuse. I learned about the GOC from visiting their website. I contacted the Chapter in San Antonio Texas and asked to be able to start a Chapter here in Virginia. I gathered my Officers and formed the Chapter here. I feel I have great people in my Chapter who has the same passion for helping the children of child Abuse. My wife Lisa "NTSCL" is my biggest supporter in what I am trying to do, she is a Member and also my advisor. My Vice President, Sherry "Ebony Angel" Cross, is not only a great VP but my dear friend and roommate. Stephen "Shadow" Mahoney, is my Treasurer and a friend. He is also the first person who signed on to start this Chapter and has been a great Officer. I signed a new member Sandy "Wildchild" Story, she is a great friend and I know has the same passion I have in this cause. I am hoping she will soon be my Secretary. We are small but we are looking for Members and Supporters who also have a passion for children and to see this danger to our children be stopped. So please do not ignore the signs of abuse if its going on in your neighborhood, call Child Protective Services. But do not hide it or sweep it under the rug. the predators of our children have to be stopped. Our children are our future and we cannot allow our children to be victims any longer. A child has the right to a innocent childhood and not have to live in fear of loved ones or ones we have told them they should trust. Predators and  abusers are not just family members or the scary guy down the street, but those we have told our kids to trust. They can be teachers, principals, doctors, dentist, priest, ministers, these can be the abusers also. Our motto is "Don't Let Your Silence Drown Out Their Cries", lets stand together as Bikers and Citizens to put a stop to the abuse in our Northern Virginia Communities and make our children safer.

WHY SHOULD I INVOLVE MYSELF WITH THE CHILD ABUSE PROBLEM?
BECAUSE 3 out 10 children are abused in one form or another.
BECAUSE these children often grow up and inflict the violence they were forced to endure on society in the form of violent crime.
BECAUSE 93% of felons convicted of violent crimes state they grew up under the strains of child abuse.
BECAUSE 4,000 children die each year from child abuse.
BECAUSE abused children carry the feelings of inadequacy and low self esteem in adulthood thereby, becoming members of society operating at less than their capacity.
BECAUSE child abusers often beget child abuse - its a family tradition.
BECAUSE it cost our society too much to cope with its effects.
BECAUSE IT CAN BE STOPPED
BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T GET INVOLVED.... WHO WILL?

WHAT IS CHILD ABUSE?

NEGLECT: Inattention to basic needs of a child such as food, clothing, shelter, medical care and supervision. Tends to be chronic.

. 50 times more likely to abuse alcohol and drugs.
. 53% more likely to be arrested as a juvenile.
. 38% more likely to be arrested as an adult.
. 6 times more likely to abuse their own children, perpetuating the cycle of violence

Mission Statement  - Guardians of the Children Northern Virginia Chapter

GOC serves as a public benefit organization. We exist to educate the public about child abuse, and create a safer environment for abused and neglected children. The Members of GOC are charged with using their individual and collective resources to aid the victims of abuse and neglect. GOC is partnered with children's advocacy agencies to receive referrals. If it is determined that GOC can benefit a child, we will organize and meet the child and through a ceremony bring the child into the organization. When needed, Members may attend court with our little wounded friends. The sole purpose for our physical presence is to assist the child in being less intimidated and frightened while testifying against their abuser. As a body of Bikers and Citizens we can help empower children to be courageous, even in the face of their ordeals. We stand ready to lend support to our wounded little friends. GOC Members and Supporters are ordinary people who simply care for children. We are parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors, teachers. We are here to spread the important message of "No More Child Abuse." The Members of GOC have taken an oath and will enforce with Valor, Truth and Intergrity the Mission of this organization. GOC is not just one individual force fighting against child abuse. GOC is a Brotherhood of motorcycle enthusiasts and concerned citizens banded together for the same cause - our children. Our associations as Bikers and Citizens gives GOC unique qualifications to protect our children and the ability to call on resources that might not generally be available to the public at large. Our Mission is to send a clear message to all who would abuse children that we are prepared to protect these children through our physical and emotional support. GOC does not condone the use of violence or physical force in any manner. However, if we asa group, or as an individual, must act to prevent the abuse of another child, we will do so...
